This is what happens when an Arctic adventure doesn’t end when you take your snowshoes off.
We start in Tromsø, but we won’t tell you exactly where we’re going… not because we’re trying to be mysterious (well, maybe a little), but because up here, nature decides!
Snow, wind and weather change constantly, so instead of following the same route every day, our guide chooses the place offering the best conditions.
Maybe we’ll walk through a forest buried in fresh snow, follow a frozen river, cross an open valley, or head towards a viewpoint that makes everyone suddenly stop talking.
Once we’ve found our spot, we put on our snowshoes, grab our poles and head out.
Never tried snowshoeing before? Perfect. We’ll show you how it works, find a comfortable pace and take our time.
There’ll be plenty of opportunities to stop for photos, listen to stories, enjoy the silence and probably wonder how walking through deep snow can feel so peaceful while also being such a good workout.
Then, somewhere in the middle of all that white, surrounded by nature and silence, we’ll stop for a homemade snack and something hot to drink — a well-earned Arctic picnic to warm up and recharge!
After a few hours out in the snow, we head back to Tromsø — and this is where things get warmer.
Snowshoes off, swimwear on. :)
Right in the center of Tromsø, floating on the Arctic sea, Pust is waiting for us — an iconic floating sauna that has become part of the city’s waterfront and local sauna culture.
And believe us, after a few hours out in the snow, stepping into that heat feels pretty special.
But this isn’t just about getting warm. Your guide will introduce you to the sauna experience through heat, steam and breathing, and lead a simple sauna ritual designed to help you slow down, relax and experience the contrast between the cold outside and the warmth around you.
There’ll also be time to simply sit back, enjoy the steam, look out at the Arctic surroundings and let your legs appreciate the fact that the snowshoeing part is officially over. :)
And if curiosity wins, there’s the sea.
Yes, THAT sea.
Taking the plunge is completely optional, but if you decide to try it, your guide will help you approach the cold calmly, work with your breathing and experience that powerful moment of going from cold Arctic water straight back into the warmth of the sauna.
That’s From Snow to Steam: moving and resting, cold and warmth, snow and sea — two very different sides of Arctic life in one experience!
What to wear for snowshoeing:
Dress in layers so you can easily adjust as you warm up. We recommend:
Personal suggestion: please, keep in mind that snowshoeing will warm you up quickly, even in cold temperatures. It’s better to feel slightly cool when you start and warm up naturally as you walk, rather than wearing too many layers and becoming sweaty. You can then add an extra warm layer whenever we stop for a break ;)
