From Snow to Steam

Minibus
Approx. 5-6 hours

Explore Tromsø’s Arctic wilderness on snowshoes, then relax in a floating sauna with an optional sea plunge. A unique small-group adventure!

This is what happens when an Arctic adventure doesn’t end when you take your snowshoes off.

We start in Tromsø, but we won’t tell you exactly where we’re going… not because we’re trying to be mysterious (well, maybe a little), but because up here, nature decides!

Snow, wind and weather change constantly, so instead of following the same route every day, our guide chooses the place offering the best conditions.

Maybe we’ll walk through a forest buried in fresh snow, follow a frozen river, cross an open valley, or head towards a viewpoint that makes everyone suddenly stop talking.

Once we’ve found our spot, we put on our snowshoes, grab our poles and head out.

Never tried snowshoeing before? Perfect. We’ll show you how it works, find a comfortable pace and take our time.

There’ll be plenty of opportunities to stop for photos, listen to stories, enjoy the silence and probably wonder how walking through deep snow can feel so peaceful while also being such a good workout.

Then, somewhere in the middle of all that white, surrounded by nature and silence, we’ll stop for a homemade snack and something hot to drink — a well-earned Arctic picnic to warm up and recharge!

After a few hours out in the snow, we head back to Tromsø — and this is where things get warmer.

Snowshoes off, swimwear on. :)

Right in the center of Tromsø, floating on the Arctic sea, Pust is waiting for us — an iconic floating sauna that has become part of the city’s waterfront and local sauna culture.

And believe us, after a few hours out in the snow, stepping into that heat feels pretty special.

But this isn’t just about getting warm. Your guide will introduce you to the sauna experience through heat, steam and breathing, and lead a simple sauna ritual designed to help you slow down, relax and experience the contrast between the cold outside and the warmth around you.

There’ll also be time to simply sit back, enjoy the steam, look out at the Arctic surroundings and let your legs appreciate the fact that the snowshoeing part is officially over. :)

And if curiosity wins, there’s the sea.

Yes, THAT sea.

Taking the plunge is completely optional, but if you decide to try it, your guide will help you approach the cold calmly, work with your breathing and experience that powerful moment of going from cold Arctic water straight back into the warmth of the sauna.

That’s From Snow to Steam: moving and resting, cold and warmth, snow and sea — two very different sides of Arctic life in one experience!

What to wear for snowshoeing:
Dress in layers so you can easily adjust as you warm up. We recommend:

  • Wool or synthetic base layer
  • Warm mid-layer
  • Waterproof outer shell
  • Base layer under waterproof trousers
  • Waterproof, high-ankle winter shoes (or hiking boots) with warm socks
  • Gloves, hat, and neck warmer
  • An extra warm layer to put on during the snack break

Personal suggestion: please, keep in mind that snowshoeing will warm you up quickly, even in cold temperatures. It’s better to feel slightly cool when you start and warm up naturally as you walk, rather than wearing too many layers and becoming sweaty. You can then add an extra warm layer whenever we stop for a break ;)

A collection of letters that we hold close & dear to our hearts...

„Tusen takk!"

Pia

Today we again met up with Monika, now the owner of Blue Puffin tours, after meeting her in 2017 on a tour to North Cape. All our communications with Monika from the time of making our booking until pickup today were clear and precise. Both Michael, who shared the stories in both German and English and Monika, who drove and guided us in English, did a fantastic job today. We got the opportunity to swim, if we were game, in the cold waters of a beautiful fjord followed by hot black currant juice and cookies and snacks. Monika went above and beyond in accommodating our extra requests today and her customer service is worlds best. I can absolutely recommend Blue Puffin tours in Tromso and North Cape to any venturing to this part of the world, either independently or by cruise ship.

Ushy

This is by far the best tour we have ever taken anywhere in the world. We were on a cruise and we told everyone we talked to how wonderful it was and hope they will pass the word to anyone they know. Monica was our guide. She owns the company. We saw and learned so much about the area and the life in Honningsvag. You will never be disappointed with this tour. A big thank you for such a wonderful time.

Diane

Our day at the North Cape was already a week ago, and we’ve now returned home. But I didn’t want to miss the chance to thank you once again for the wonderful day. We had a fantastic excursion with Linda—huge compliments to her, she’s a great tour guide—and of course also to our bus driver. We also really enjoyed the king crab meal; it was super delicious. A truly great restaurant. We will definitely recommend you, and if we come back to Norway, we’d love to go on another tour with you. :-)

Tanja

We would like to sincerely thank you for the wonderful North Cape tour with you. A special thanks also goes to our guide – you can really feel how passionately she approaches the task of bringing Norway closer to us. Another big thank you to our bus driver Rebecka. We definitely don’t regret booking with you and will gladly recommend you to others. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to join tomorrow’s tour, as we already booked another excursion. We would have loved to be there again 😉🙃👍. Wishing you and your team continued success.

Frank & Jana

Want to say a huge thank you to Blue Puffin in general and the amazing Linda in particular for our wonderful North Cape tour today. Linda is a force of nature and the best guide we’ve ever had. Thank you so much.

Alan & Linda

Nochmals vielen Dank!

Fam. Wittich

Thank you very much for your message. I would also like to mention that we joined your excursion to the North Cape today – and it was absolutely amazing! This is my 17th cruise, but I’ve never had such a wonderful tour. It was fun, informative, and full of charm. Your colleague is simply incredible – she’s not just good at what she does, she truly lives for it. She’s one of a kind, and it was a real privilege to experience that. Thank you for everything!

Philipp

Heinz, Wolfgang & Gudrun

A heartfelt thank you to the dear Blue Puffin Team, especially to the extremely friendly and informative Linda, whose enthusiastic manner made her so lovable, for this wonderful tour to the North Cape. We have already warmly recommended your company and will definitely book with you again on our hopefully next trip to Tromsø. Linda made it sound very appealing 😉!!

Brigitte & companions

We were on the MSC Preziosa from June 20th to July 4th, 2025. Now our journey to the North has come to an end, and we have arrived back home. On June 25th, 2025, we took part in your North Cape tour. Michelle was our guide. She gave us a deep insight into life in the northern region. We learned a lot about the country, its people, and the wildlife. She guided us with real passion, so to speak. We can only praise your company and will definitely recommend you. P.S.: Stay healthy, all of you!

Karl-Heinz & Marita

Have been meaning to email for a couple of weeks but life got in the way! Just wanted to say a huge thank you to you and the team for your help in tours in Honningsvag and Tromso when visiting on Sky Princess over Midsummer. The reserved seats at the front for my partner made all the difference and the tour guides were excellent. Anita and Martin made the two days very special. I am though extremely envious of your home town and already getting withdrawal symptoms - if you ever need an English Norwegian speaking tour guide let me know!
